Add a typed signature to a PDF: steps and limits
Place your typed name on a PDF page in your browser. Understand placement, supported documents and the difference from forms and digital signatures.

If you need your name visibly placed on a PDF, CapriVideo's Sign PDF tool adds it as italic text. You select the page, type your name and click to place it directly on the page. Processing happens on your device without an account. Before starting, confirm that a visible typed name is what the recipient requested. This tool does not establish whether that appearance meets the requirements for a particular document.
Check the requested signing method
A request to “sign a PDF” can describe different jobs. Adding a name to an ordinary page creates a visible mark. Filling an interactive signature field involves a form. Certificate-based signing is another workflow with information that a PDF reader can validate.
CapriVideo currently handles the visible typed-name task. It does not verify identity, create a certificate-based digital signature, send signature requests or record an agreement trail. You can also use Draw to make a handwritten mark directly on the page, but adding a signature image is not supported. If the recipient supplied a signing link or requires a certificate, use their specified process.
Add your name to a supported PDF
- Open Sign PDF and select your PDF. Keep the original file so you can return to it later.
- Select the thumbnail of the page where your name should appear. For a three-page document with the signature area on the last page, choose the third thumbnail.
- Choose Signature, type your name, and set the color and text size. Click inside the signature area to place the name, then drag it into position.
- Choose Export PDF, review the result, and select Download PDF. Open the saved copy to check that the name is legible and on the intended page.
You can select your added name to adjust it or remove it, and use Undo if a move was a mistake. Leave surrounding wording visible. A long name does not automatically shrink to fit: reduce the font size or move it away from the page edge if needed. The export must fit your addition inside the page.
Fill a supported form before adding your signature
The tool accepts supported PDFs up to 25 MiB and 200 pages, including a single fillable form. Such a form opens in Fill form mode. Enter your details in its original text fields and select checkboxes on the page, then switch to Signature or Draw for the visible signature. The exported PDF keeps its form fields interactive. It does not create a certificate-based signature or sign a digital signature field.
Form pages must stay in their original order: merging, extraction, deletion and rotation are disabled. Supported static XFA forms with standard PDF fields are converted to a standard fillable copy, with a notice that scripts, automatic calculations, document navigation actions and extended Adobe Reader rights are removed. XFA-only forms, password-protected files and documents with existing digital signatures are unsupported. Do not remove an existing signature to bypass that check; use the recipient's intended workflow.
Check names, pages and the saved copy
The available font supports Latin letters and common punctuation, but it does not cover every writing system. If your name is rejected, choose a tool that supports the correct characters rather than changing your name to fit the font. Check accents in the downloaded PDF as well as the preview.
For a date or short note, switch to Text in the same workspace and place another text item beside your name. You can make several additions before exporting one new file. Keep filenames clear enough to distinguish the original from the final version you send. Closing or resetting the workspace does not save an editable session.
