Help new colleagues find their way

Plan short onboarding videos around the questions people ask in their first days, from where to start to whom to contact.

Where do I enter my hours? Who can help with this request? What should I prepare before my first day? Short videos can give new colleagues an answer they can find again, without asking them to remember the whole company handbook.

Choose the moment you are supporting

Pre-arrival preparation, first-time time entry, and reporting an internal request are different jobs. Give them separate modules so people can find the right help when the question arises. A long welcome film is not always the easiest place to locate a practical instruction.

Imagine a fictional employee who needs to submit an organizational change request. Show the actual channel, the information needed, and the response from the responsible role. The story connects the person, system, and team through a concrete task.

Make ownership visible

Identify what the new hire does and where another person takes over. Keep submission distinct from confirmation. Use the same terminology as the real policies, materials, and interfaces so the video does not introduce a competing vocabulary.

A welcome film can separately introduce the organization's culture and collaboration. It should not become the only location for frequently needed contact details and procedures. Those details need to be easy to find and update.

Plan access and maintenance

Provide a text equivalent and appropriate captions. Name the module after the task and link it from the actual onboarding flow. Assign an owner for updates when a system, responsibility, or contact changes.

Check understanding, not only completion

Ask new hires where they would begin and whom they would contact with a question. A useful check asks them to explain a decision or handoff. A recorded play does not establish that they understood the task.
